One of the most freeing statements I heard when creating my business was this – “It’s your business. You can do what ever you want!” This statement came from Diana Sterling who was the presenter for a business development program I took several years ago ( I did a search for her and she is a coach, but not in business anymore. Too bad, it was a great program).
What was freeing about it was she threw the decision making right into my lap. At first I had to take a deep breath! My business? I can create it the way I want? Really? I don’t have to follow what someone else is doing in my field? It was freeing and yet stressful. Kinda like an artist with a blank canvas ready to paint, but what?
Herein lies the beauty of having your own business especially today. Yesterday I “read” a really, really good book by Jim Kukral on Attraction Marketing. It was up to date with all the social marketing ventures with lots of references to people who became internet successes by being different, thinking outside the box, having an idea and going for it – the beauty of having your own business. It was pretty inspiring to read!
In spite of all the craziness going on in the world, it’s really a time to be innovative in your business. It’s no longer following the ways of what business used to be like. Social media has turned every thing upside down. Seth Godin writes about this a lot on how the “factory” life trained us to live and follow directions, get paid, and go home. That business role model is not working anymore. We no longer have to follow, but can lead.
There is much to be excited about. How do you break from the flock> Follow your passion. Design it, the business, the way it suits you as well as your market. Read, read, and read, to get ideas and to see what other innovative things are happening. Success Magazine is also a good periodical to read for inspiration.
If there is one thing I have learned lately, it’s this, believe in yourself and follow your heart. Yo can’t go wrong if you do that.
Now, this video made me think of the obvious to solve the problem. What did you come up with? There are those who would wait forever …. But sometimes it’s the obvious that will set you apart.
As always, I welcome your comments and thank you, always in advance..
Lesly

Hi Lesli,
that is a funny video.
It seems to me that it is not far from the truth.
I like to keep walking even if those steps or the flat variety is moving and I quite often have to ask people to let me get past.
Are people only exercising in the gym nowadays?
Thank you for the food for thought.

Hahaha, that video you chose fits your point so well. Some people just don’t seem to know (I say seem to know, because deep down they do, they are just SOOO used to following directions) how to think for themselves. They are conditioned to take directions from their superior and just do as they are told to do.
Owning your own business is an innovative step to overcoming this, but it is not enough. You must follow your own path that you create as you go, do not always follow what others tell you to do. Sometimes you need to go outside of the box, out of your COMFORT ZONE.
If it is to be it is up to me.
It is what one is shooting for and what are their goals.
Choice is theirs.
Video is great!
Thanks for sharing.
OK, that cracked me up. Would you believe, I have never seen that video before?!! Thanks Lesly… I needed a laugh tonight!
“Sometimes it’s the obvious that will set you apart.”
I love it!

This is so hilarious and love your post on “it’s your business – you can do whatever you wish”…. it’s funny today I posted my blog on “Believe in yourself”….how serendipitous!
In gratitude,
Nancy
Oh, that video is funny. I just wanted somebody to run up the escalator between them. I love your new blog theme. Keep up the great work. I think we are on similar paths. You talk about essence and I am always trying to get the inherent drama of a situation, thing or word. Inherent Drama is what Leo Burnett called it. It just comes naturally to some. We get the essence of things. You shine, Lesly. Talk soon. Nicole~
Hi Lesly
This is so good and the Video just bring to point over.
It is always up to you what will happen with you and your business.
You have to do the work not your upline or the boss and how many peole say “help ” when only they can help them self.
great point

Theuns
Hi Theuns,
Thanks for the visit! Everything all comes down to you… you are so right!
Love the video, that is quite halirious! I think they will be standing there for quite a while, maybe they need lessons on how to step outside the box. LOL
The point that you made on our old “factory” mentality is not longer valid anymore, is a great point and really hit home with me. It is true that we need to go back to the though process of indvidualism and use the power of social media and interaction!
Hi Adrian, so many things are changing and fast too.. I agree absolutely. Thanks for the visit!
Love it Lesly!
I truly believe that we can tap into our creative imagination and discover new things. It is so important to have an open mind to what comes across our path.
I am a very cautious person, so I am careful about my decisions. There have been a few times when I was certain that what came across my desk was an answer to prayer and creative imagintion!
Thank you for your article, I enjoyed it!
Your friend,
Lynn
